The oldest of two brothers and two stepsisters, David left New York City in 1989 to “return to my family” who had relocated from Salt Lake City to Denver.” In the Big Apple, David worked as director of design and restoration for the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, the world’s largest hotel where David learned “celebrities are normal people.”
To his credit, many hotel residents “wanted to hire me to design their homes.” So, he started his own business, David Alexander Design. “I have a short attention span,” he laughs, “and like to do a lot of things. Designing and coordinating events affords me that.”
David always finds time to give back. “I’ve been blessed with a lot of energy,” says the co-chair for Hospice of Metro Denver’s 2002 Mask Project and board member for Colorado AIDS Project and Faces.
Of the many social events he attends, David claims, “my favorite is Greek Easter at my mother’s house with my entire family. It’s a wonderful tradition.”

An event you planned that you’ll never forget: Coordinating Denver Summit of the Eight.
Who is the most interesting celebrity you ever met? I’ll tell you about the most interesting time I spent with a celebrity. It was “Night of 100 Stars” and a song came on that I love (Duke Ellington’s “Satin Doll”). I went up to Princess Grace and said, “This is one of my favorite songs…would you mind dancing? She said, ‘Absolutely’. It was almost surreal.”
What was your first job? I was 14’ish and I was “red vest” (grocery bagger) at Mayfair Market in Salt Lake City. We were called “red vests” because we wore little red vests.
Your daily philosophy: You only go around once, so make sure you go all the way around.
Favorite books: My all-time favorite book is “Where the Red Fern Grows” that I read when I was a child.
What three things do you always have in your refrigerator? Tons of condiments.
What’s your favorite comfort food? Greek chicken and rice.
What do you do to relax? Take a bubble bath.
When you move, what will your home tell its next owner about you? How fabulous one looks in candelight! I’m a big candle guy.
What is your greatest indulgence? Sleeping late.
If you could be something other than what you are, what would you be? A high school debate teacher.
